ESD in LIBERIA - TRAINING WORKSHOP 12-15 MAY 2008

UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Africa (BREDA) in collaboration with UNESCO Liberia antennae and the Ministry of Education in Liberia with support from Japanese Funds-in- Trust organized an Educational Teaching and Management for Sustainable Development (Training of Trainers Workshop) in Liberia 12-15 May 2008.

The purpose of the workshop was to deepen the participant’s skills in managing education and teaching in a world where sustainable development and learning for sustainable futures are increasingly important. Contextualize the definition of ESD in Liberia.
· To discuss and reflect on the education sectors response to sustainable development issues
· To build interest in and energize national sector stakeholders in education for sustainable development
· To identify key challenges and brainstorm on training needs and priorities for ESD implementation
· To build capacity and learn interactively in the process

During the 4 days, 24 participants of very good level, were trained and committed to share their learning on ESD. The overall evaluation of the workshop shows that the objectives of the training met the expectations of the participants.

The introduction we gave them during these 4 days generated, as foreseen in previous activity report, a need for a follow up and more capacity building. The ESD themes identified for future work are such more focusing on Values as it linked to the professional ethics, and also Gender misbalance.
